Dumping is the practice of selling goods in a foreign market at an unusually low price, often lower than the price charged in the producer's own country or even below the cost of production.
Companies or governments may use dumping to gain market share, get rid of excess inventory, or drive competitors out of the market. While consumers may benefit from lower prices in the short term, domestic industries in the importing country can suffer significant losses.
To protect local businesses from unfair competition, many countries impose anti-dumping duties, which are special tariffs on dumped products.
